A timeline for St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Freehold
1971 | Parish was founded June 18 by the Most Rev. George W. Ahr, seventh Bishop of Trenton, with Father Thomas Dentici as the founding pastor. The parish census included 564 registered families, and Masses were celebrated in various locations around the area.
1974 | Groundbreaking for construction of Parish Family Center.
1975 | On Sept. 14, Bishop Ahr blesses and dedicates St. Robert Bellarmine Parish family center.
1987 | Parish census climbs to 1,300 registered families – 131 percent growth in 16 years!
1988 | Arrival of Father Thomas J. O’Connor as fourth pastor at St. Robert’s.
1996 | Plans begin to construct a new parish church.
1997 | In September, 17 new classrooms, which were added to the parish center for religious education, are dedicated by the Most Rev. John M. Smith, ninth Bishop of Trenton.
2001 | Construction begins on St. Robert Bellarmine Church.
2002 | New church is dedicated by Bishop Smith.
2009 | In July, Father Sam A. Sirianni is installed by Bishop Smith as the fifth pastor.
2011 | 40th anniversary of St. Robert Bellarmine, 4,100 families registered – 627 percent growth in 40 years!
2017 | In February, St. Robert Bellarmine Parish was Elevated to Co-Cathedral.
