Church teaching on giving priority to the well-being of the poor and marginalized is not a political or ideological choice; it lies at the very heart of the Gospel.
By Pope Francis
August 19, 2020
General Audience
The Office of Catholic Social Services works with Catholic social service agencies and parish ministries within the Diocese of Trenton to answer Jesus’ call to serve those in need, to advocate for justice and promote peace, recognizing the rights of all those who are vulnerable or marginalized in any way.
We serve as liaison to approved Catholic organizations who offer a broad array of services and programs, and in this way, are a resource for our parishes as they respond to the needs of those in their unique communities of faith, as well as the wider community.
Our Catholic social service agencies and parish offices or ministries also provide people with information about other community resources for assistance when such assistance is not available through our Catholic social service network. Additionally, they collaborate with non-Catholic social service agencies and programs as well as government agencies to better meet the needs of the whole community.
“Faith requires Action” on behalf of the poor and marginalized, and is the core of Catholic Social Teaching. For those looking to expand their involvement in the Church, there are many opportunities for prayer and volunteer work within your parish and within the Catholic social services programs.
Contact any organization
listed above for volunteer opportunities or contact the Office of Catholic Social Services.
On December 8, Pope Francis declared that this coming year will be dedicated to Saint Joseph. In the Apostolic Letter, named Patris Corde (With the Heart of a Father), the Pope dedicated the Universal Church to his fatherly care. Did you know that Wednesday is the day of the week the Church dedicates to Saint Joseph?
Let us pray:
Hail, Guardian of the Redeemer, Spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
To you God entrusted his only Son; in you Mary placed her trust;
with you Christ became man. Blessed Joseph, to us too, show yourself a father and guide us in the path of life. Obtain for us grace, mercy and courage, and defend us from every evil. Amen
