There are times when members of our Catholic community seek to join a parish other than the one that is designated for the community in which they live. In The Statutes of the Fourth Synod of the Diocese of Trenton (2014) this issue is addressed. It states (from Statute 123):
Baptized Catholics ordinarily belong to the territorial parish in which they reside but, in other cases, good pastoral judgement should be exercised for the spiritual welfare of the faithful. All territorial parishes in the Diocese of Trenton have specific geographical boundaries established by the Bishop.
It is recommended that individuals wishing to learn more about joining a parish other than their own territorial parish consult with the pastor or parish priest in the community they wish to join.
